Women’s Gymnastics Lends a Hand for Build a Block
A cold, rainy day didn’t stop the women’s gymnastics team from lending a hand for Build a Block. The team woke up bright and early Saturday to help build a house for Habitat for Humanity of Orange County.
“I Think Habitat is a great opportunity for us athletes to give back to the community and make others’ dreams possible too,” said senior team member, Krista Jasper.
Build a Block is a campus-wide initiative to build 10 homes for 10 families in 10 months by and for UNC community members. The student-led initiative was created by the UNC Habitat Club when news that a record number of university and UNC hospital employees had applied for Habitat housing.
UNC athletes immediately wanted to get involved. Build a Block is funded through campus-wide efforts and champions who have pledged to fund a house. Carolina Athletics is one of these champions.
“With the gymnastics team volunteering on a habitat house, we are reaching our goal of creating a campus-wide collaborative effort to build 10 houses for 10 UNC employees. As a Build a Block champion, Carolina Athletics is committed to this initiative and we are happy to see athletics embrace this opportunity,” said sophomore Collin Sullivan, co-fundraising chair for UNC Habitat.
